Where PAS should be?

In NSTP 1/5/2011, Najib has urged PAS to break away from the lose Pakatan Rakyat coalition, citing that the coalition has done more damage to PAS rather than allowing PAS tu uphold to their Islamic cause. What Najib is saying is the fact that happens to PAS. Rakyat perceives PAS as a follower rather a leader in Pakatan. However the only Party in Pakatan that has a lot of grassroots and manpower is PAS. In many cases PAS could not have their own say. In fact, they have to wait for some sort of approval from both DAP and PKR.

So where PAS should be? Should PAS rejoin BN or should PAS be a loner. In my opinion I would rather see PAS as a major opposition. Throughout history, PAS has never contested enough seat to form a goverment, while UMNO has maintaned at least more than 55% candidates. Therefore, why vote for PAS because they will never form a government even if they won all seats.

However, if PAS is the official opposition, PAS should function as a check and balance to UMNO, so that the needs for Islam will never be challenged by anyone. We have seen in Malaysia that the only way to have a prosperity governement is to ensure that UMNO remains in power. In UMNO the needs for all the people are cared, no one is left behind. But the same thing would never be achieved in a DAP and PKR led government. These parties are biased towards the needs of their own rather than the people.
